Detroit, MI (June 23, 2026) – One person was killed following a wrong-way crash involving multiple vehicles and a fire on I-75 in Detroit early Tuesday morning, June 23.
The Michigan State Police said reports began coming in around 4:00 a.m. regarding a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the interstate. Shortly after, authorities were alerted to a two-vehicle rollover crash involving a fire. Troopers responded and determined that one of the vehicles involved was the suspected wrong-way driver.
Officials confirmed that a 38-year-old woman from Detroit died as a result of the crash. The suspected wrong-way driver was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to enter the freeway in the wrong direction, and the incident remains under investigation.
