Detroit, MI (December 5, 2025) – Two people were injured on Wednesday, December 3, when a vehicle ran a traffic signal and collided with another driver on Detroit’s east side, according to investigators.
The Commercial Auto Theft Section had been conducting surveillance in the 9th Precinct when officers identified a vehicle believed to be stolen. Units reported that the driver was operating erratically and requested air support to track the car. Police also emphasized that there was no active ground pursuit at the time of the crash.
The driver continued at a high rate of speed and failed to obey a traffic signal near Hayes Street and 7 Mile Road. The vehicle then struck an uninvolved motorist. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital and are listed in temporary serious condition.
The Detroit Police Department is still investigating the crash.
We extend our hopes for a safe and steady recovery to everyone injured in the incident.
Reckless and High-Speed Driving Crashes in Michigan
Collisions caused by speeding or violating traffic signals are a persistent issue in Michigan, especially in dense urban areas like Detroit. Major intersections in the city consistently report some of the highest crash volumes.
Side-impact collisions at intersections often result in severe injuries because the struck driver has little time to react. Victims may suffer fractures, spinal injuries, head trauma, or other conditions requiring long-term treatment. According to statewide crash statistics from the Michigan State Police, high-speed and signal-violation crashes make up a significant share of Michigan’s most serious injury cases each year.
When a stolen vehicle or reckless driver is involved, determining liability can become more complicated. Insurance delays are common. Victims may need help understanding Michigan’s no-fault system and whether a third-party claim applies to their case.
