& CHAMPIONING YOUR RECOVERY

Detroit, MI — Pedestrian Hospitalized After Collision at 7 Mile Rd and Greenview Ave

Detroit, MI (May 2, 2026) — Emergency responders were dispatched to Northwest Detroit on Saturday, May 2, following a motor vehicle accident that also involved a pedestrian. The collision occurred near the intersection of West 7 Mile Road and Greenview Avenue in the city’s 8th Precinct.

Units from the Detroit Fire Department arrived on the scene along with Detroit Police to provide immediate medical intervention. The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was treated for injuries sustained in the impact before being transported to a local trauma center.

A police investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.

The “Order of Priority”: Accessing No-Fault Benefits as a Pedestrian in Detroit

In Detroit, pedestrians injured by motor vehicles are covered by Michigan’s comprehensive “No-Fault” insurance system. However, determining which insurance company pays the bills follows a specific “Order of Priority.”

1. Your Own Auto Insurance Policy

Under Michigan’s No-Fault law, the first place an injured pedestrian looks for medical coverage is their own personal auto insurance policy. This is true even though you were walking and not driving at the time of the accident. Your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits will cover your medical expenses, a portion of lost wages, and household replacement services.

2. Coverage Through a Resident Relative

If you do not own a vehicle or have your own auto insurance, the law moves to the next “priority.” You are covered by the auto insurance policy of any relative who lives in the same household as you (such as a spouse, parent, or sibling). This ensures that even non-drivers have access to the medical benefits required for recovery from a serious collision.

3. The Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP)

If you do not have your own insurance and do not live with a relative who has a policy, you are not left without options. In these cases, your claim is filed through the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP). The MACP will assign an insurance company to handle your claim.

4. Suing the At-Fault Driver for “Pain and Suffering”

To seek these “non-economic” damages, you must file a separate “third-party” lawsuit against the driver who hit you. To succeed in Michigan, your injuries must meet a “threshold” of serious impairment of body function. A legal investigation will look at the driver’s actions to prove they were at fault for the impact.

5. The Critical One-Year Notice Deadline

It is vital to act quickly following a pedestrian strike in Detroit. To preserve your right to PIP benefits, you must provide written notice of the injury to the correct insurance company within one year of the accident date. If this “Notice of Injury” is not filed correctly, you may be permanently barred from receiving medical benefits, regardless of the severity of your injuries.
