Top 3 Most Dangerous Roads in Detroit: High-Risk Streets Drivers Should Know

In Detroit, several roads consistently rank among the most dangerous due to high traffic volume, speeding, and crash data trends. Gratiot Avenue is cited as one of the top high-risk corridors. It stretches across multiple neighborhoods and serves as a major commuter route, which contributes to frequent congestion and elevated accident rates. Data from traffic safety reports highlights a pattern of collisions tied to both heavy usage and inconsistent driving speeds.

Another roadway frequently identified is Eight Mile Road, a major boundary line and thoroughfare that carries significant daily traffic. Its wide lanes can encourage speeding, while numerous intersections increase the likelihood of crashes. Studies of local traffic incidents consistently place Eight Mile Road among the highest for both vehicle collisions and pedestrian-related accidents.

Telegraph Road also ranks as one of the most hazardous in the Detroit area. As a major arterial road connecting suburbs to the city, it experiences constant traffic flow. High speeds, combined with frequent lane changes and commercial access points, contribute to its risk profile. Transportation data regularly shows elevated crash rates along this corridor.

These roads reflect broader traffic safety challenges in Detroit, including infrastructure demands and driver behavior patterns. There are ongoing efforts taking place to improve road design and also aim to reduce these risks over time.
