Detroit, MI (February 15, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle motor-vehicle collision on February 15 caused extensive emergency response activity and a full freeway shutdown along westbound Interstate 94 at Concord on Detroit’s east side. The crash involved multiple vehicles, required extrication efforts, and resulted in at least one vehicle catching fire.
Upon assessment, paramedics identified at least one person trapped inside a damaged vehicle. Rescue personnel worked quickly to extricate the victim, stabilizing the patient before preparing for transport.
Additional advanced life support units from Detroit EMS responded to assist with patient care and transport. They transported one injured person to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Another Detroit EMS unit conveyed a second patient from the scene. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the severity of the injuries.
Investigators then documented vehicle positions, roadway markings, and debris patterns to determine the sequence of events that led to the crash.
Officials have not confirmed how many vehicles were involved. Investigators continue gathering witness statements and reviewing available evidence.
Our thoughts remain with those injured in this crash, and we wish them a full and timely recovery.
What Should I Do After a Car Accident in Detroit?
After a car accident in Detroit, your first priority should be safety and health. Check yourself and others for injuries and call 911 right away if anyone needs medical help or if the crash involves significant damage. Michigan law requires drivers to stop, render reasonable assistance, and report the crash to police. A police report creates an official record that is needed for insurance and legal purposes.
Once it’s safe, exchange information with the other driver(s). Michigan law requires exchanging names, contact details, driver’s license numbers, and insurance information, but you should avoid discussing fault at the scene.
Photograph the scene, vehicle damage, road conditions, and gather witness contact information if possible; these details help support insurance claims.
Seek medical attention even if you feel fine; some injuries like whiplash may not show symptoms immediately, and prompt documentation helps both your health and any claim you later make. Under Michigan’s no-fault insurance system, your own policy typically covers medical costs and wage loss, regardless of fault.
Finally, report the crash to your insurance company promptly and consider consulting an attorney before giving detailed statements to insurers. Legal advice can help you understand your rights and whether you have grounds for a claim beyond no-fault benefits, especially if serious injuries or extensive damages occurred.
In Detroit, recent crash data shows the city experiences thousands of traffic accidents annually. In 2023, there were about 24,344 reported crashes, resulting in nearly 8,700 injuries and roughly 130 fatalities. More than a quarter of those accidents were rear-end collisions.
This shows that, while fatal crashes are a smaller share, injury-causing crashes remain common in Detroit’s busy traffic environment.
