Detroit, MI – Two Passengers Killed After Car Slams into Warehouse on Rosa Parks Blvd

Detroit, MI (February 23, 2026) – A high-impact collision on Detroit’s west side left two people dead and a third person in police custody on Sunday, February 22. Detroit Police and emergency crews responded to the 6000 block of Rosa Parks Boulevard, near McGraw Avenue, at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Authorities report that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and crashed into the Cardinal Health warehouse. There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the impact. Tragically, both passengers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver survived the crash with injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Detroit Police confirmed the driver was taken into custody at the hospital as investigators from the Fatal Squad work to determine how the crash occurred.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the victims’ families and loved ones during this challenging time.

What can I do if a family member is killed in a crash in Detroit?

When a passenger is killed in a single-vehicle crash involving a driver who is taken into custody, the case often moves into both criminal and civil legal territories. To safeguard your legal interests, you should prioritize obtaining the police reconstruction report and identifying all available insurance policies to cover the immense emotional and financial toll on your family.

Because the driver in this incident was taken into custody, there is a high likelihood of criminal charges, such as reckless driving or vehicular manslaughter.

It is important for the family of the deceased passengers to stay informed about the prosecutor’s findings. Criminal restitution can sometimes help with immediate costs, but it rarely covers the full extent of a family’s long-term loss.

In Michigan, surviving family members have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit if a loved one’s death was caused by someone else’s negligence or “willful and wanton” misconduct.

This allows the family to seek compensation for funeral expenses, the loss of the victim’s future financial support, and the profound loss of companionship. This claim is typically made against the driver’s insurance policy.

Michigan is a “no-fault” state, which means the insurance process can be complicated. Survivors of passengers killed in an accident may be entitled to Survivor’s Loss Benefits. These benefits are designed to help replace the income the deceased would have provided to their dependents.

A legal professional can help you determine which policy pays these benefits, whether it’s the victim’s own auto policy, a family member’s policy, or the policy on the vehicle involved in the crash.

When a driver is facing criminal charges, their insurance company will work quickly to limit their own financial liability. Contact a lawyer to have a dedicated advocate who can manage the technical details, such as pulling “black box” data from the car and interviewing warehouse witnesses, while you focus on grieving.
